S im p lify sea tin g . Because the small living room
couldn’t handle a lot of furniture, Amy opted for
an extra-long sofa rather than a combo of sofa and
chairs. She paired it with a cocktail table generous
enough to host an appetizer buffet for guests and
sturdy enough to stand up to their new puppy.
U se p a ttern in a sm a ll sp a ce. An Oriental
rug in deep reds and indigo blue that Amy found
on Craigslist, plus ikat-pattern drapes she stitched
herself, give the room a layered, collected look on a
newlywed budget. The neutral beige sofa and soft
blue walls are counterpoints for all the pattern.
G et cre a tiv e w ith fu rn itu re. Rather than
buy a new TV console or entertainment center,
Amy houses video equipment in a vintage pine
cabinet. The drawers hold entertaining gear like
coasters and playing cards, and board games fit on
the shelves inside the cabinet.
